About Pattern
Pattern is an on-device personal pattern assistant. It reads your sleep, heart-rate variability (HRV), heart rate, steps, workouts, and calendar from Apple Health and EventKit, and uses an on-device language model to surface daily insights and weekly patterns. Nothing is sent to any server — everything stays on your iPhone.
Common questions
How do I connect my Google or Outlook calendar?
Open iPhone Settings → Calendar → Accounts → Add Account, then add Google, Microsoft Exchange, or any CalDAV account. The events flow into Pattern automatically.
Where are my Deep Work sessions stored?
Deep Work sessions, reflections, and daily briefs are saved as markdown files inside the app's Documents folder. Open the iOS Files app → On My iPhone → Pattern → personal-agent to read or back them up.
The daily brief is generic. How do I make it specific?
The brief writes from your actual data. The more sessions you tag (Deep / Shallow / Interrupted) and the more days you let Pattern read your HRV and calendar, the more specific the pattern it surfaces becomes. Most users see noticeably sharper briefs after 7-10 days of use.
Does Pattern work without an Apple Watch?
Yes, but you'll see fewer insights. HRV and resting heart rate require Apple Watch (or another HealthKit-compatible wearable). Calendar, sleep, steps, and Deep Work all work without one.
Which language models can I use?
Two options:
- Apple Foundation Models (iOS 26+, Apple Intelligence-capable iPhones). Runs directly via Apple's system framework — no download needed.
- Open-source GGUF models downloaded from HuggingFace (Llama, Gemma, Qwen, etc.). Pick a model in Settings → Choose model.
How do I delete my data?
Either delete files individually from the Files app, or uninstall Pattern from iPhone (Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Pattern → Delete App). Because Pattern stores nothing on any server, that's all you need to do.
The app crashed / something is broken.
